Pre-Mobile
How did we ever function pre-”mobile phone era”? I know how we functioned pre-internet.. slowly! Mail used to take 2-4 weeks to get half way across the world and we had to go to the library to research information. Encyclopedia’s played a big part of our life and we weren’t as knowledgeable about the rest of the world and its events.
But without mobile phones, how did we ever manage to meet up somewhere? Now-a-days, we constantly use our mobile to figure out where the other person is, when they’re arriving, and where we’re meeting up. “Wainkom?” “3ind el food court.. yala ta3alay!”
Imagine your mobile taken away from you for a few days. Will you be able to function?

Imagine pre cars! All this walking! :p I’m exagerating! I think we were fine premobiles. We would meet and breaking a promise was very big and bad. Now, since we have mobiles, we have more excuses not to come or do things. ;/

I wouldn’t be able to operate! I would have a stress free day, and i just wouldn’t get in contact with anyone!
I remember back in the day there was a car phone and the only way to call but now its like its attached my head.
And no internet would mean insanity, then I can’t be in contact with friends that easily!

N: yeah, i agree with you.. 9erna wayed netdala3!!!
Marzouq:we’re so connected to the rest of the world, it’s crazy! it would be nice to disconnect for a while where no one can reach you. the CLOSEST i’ve come to that is not turning my laptop on at home for a week! i need to one day try throwing my mobile in the drawer when i get home! (notice, i didnt say turning it off! curiosity would kill me to know who tried to reach me!)

actually, i believe we were more knowledgable. we had to learn, since information wasnt easily accessible any time we wanted. now, we know we have it our fingertips, so why bother learning?
the magic of books is dying, being replaced by websites giving you anything you want, right here, right now.
mobiles? i would love to live without one. if i had no responsibilities, i would probably throw mine away. sure, i love the connectivity, but life is getting to busy, too fast, too noisy.
imagine throwing away your cellphone and flying away to, lets say, argentina. imagine no one knowing where you are, and no one being able to contact you. for once again, you are free.

ammaro: but we didnt know half of what was going on in the world as much as we do now. i remember during the gulf war, our sole source was CNN.. the international version! now, we can find anything out online and via cable!
i do miss books.. and it’s my dream to be able to throw away my mobile.. one of these days, i’ll do it.. at least for a while.. HEY, that’s my 2008 resolution.. i’ll get rid of my mobile and my inet connection for a period of time and see how i can survive!
HAHAHAHA re: the meeting! true. and we would BE there at 8.. unlike now with the many calls ‘i’m running late.. gimme another 15 mins..’

Yeah I can’t live without it! It works well for me as my alarm clock! I don’t know how I will wake up in the morning since I am too lazy to get a new battery for the real alarm

And most of the calls I get are from mom who is in the 1st floor calling me for dinner or to buy stuff and unneeded sms from the bank and phone company
