Male Assistance Needed

Ok.. so I need a male to explain this to me.

When a guy sends a message to a female, and in that message refers to her as ‘fella’…. is that his way of telling her that he thinks of her as one of the guys/friends?

Fella? Who uses fella! I personally think this is a confused word. It alone, cannot be used to make an assumption. It would also depend on how that guy speaks, and in what context was it used. Also, if the guy has any British/American education background.

my sentiments exactly. who uses fella?! and why would any guy use that word to refer to a girl, EVEN if he wanted her to know that he sees her as a friend? ma yegdar egool ’sister’?

    Thanks :p

Well, I don’t think “sister” is a word I would personally use, even for a friend. As in “My sister is my friend, but my friend is not my sister.”

Hmm, he might have wanted to find a word that does not implement friend not someone he has a crush on. “Fella” produces the effect of disattachment to the person, since fella is “person” without defining a relationship criteria, makes sense? Unlike using “friend” which would work much better to resemble a closeness and has a type of relationship factor in its definition.

Am I over-analyzing? I tend to do that sometimes, but I’m only trying to help here :p Allah ehadah laish gayel fella! Hehe.

N.: zain, forget sister.. cant he say ‘friend’.. “how’s my friend?” mathalan.. the funny thing is that we’re over analysing something that probably means nothing and just happens to be the word that popped up at that moment.

    but WHO uses fella?! ;)

princess: la la.. fella as in fellow! :)

i think his english is off. no american guy i know ever calls a girl “fella”… never.

i think he meant “guy”… i say that all the time. would you “guys” like to go ……” when talking to girls or guys. it’s slang.

maybe it’s an innocent mistake on his part and he’s wantin’ to do something w/ you. :)

um naief: that’s what i was thinking.. you just dont refer to a female as a fella! e.g. “how’s our ‘Go To’ fella?”… more like “how’s our ‘GO TO’ gal?”

glad i’m not the only one to find the usage of the word odd.. guess we’ll just cross it off as wrong usage of slang!

error: now my curiosity has been peaked! email me! msb073@gmail.com (although, a part of my brain tells me i probably DONT want to know what you’re thinking)

Fella? You seriously need more modern friends. Fella died out sometime in the 1960’s.

If you want to be my friend, i’ll label you with all the latest slang terms from the late 90’s till today, including “Homie”, “G”, “Blood” and “Bra” as well as many others.

I don’t think “fella” can be used when relating to a female, it is usually directed at a male … while the origin of fella is fellow which might describe both a male and a female !!!!

But anyone whom i would describe in a message as fella would be someone who is just a friend and someone from the gang however for a female i would prefer the usage of the word gurly or chica …

I think it all depends on how you think about this person, if you like him then you may have given him that impression at some point. He may not feel the same way, hence his usage of the term ‘fella’ as a subtle way of letting you know that he may not feel the same way.

Or is he someone who associates with comedy a lot? You know, those friends who think up of bizarre jokes all the time and tend to use words that aren’t used much these days just for the sake of being random and funny?

Vagabond: (for some reason ur comment was marked as spam! just noticed it now..)

well, i definitely didn’t give him the impression of liking him and that was as clear as day from our conversations. which is the main reason i found the usage of the word strange to begin with. oh well. teaches me to stay quiet! next time, the min i get a word that doesnt make sense, i should question it instead of posting about it! :)
