To Sms, or Not to Sms

Following the whole ‘friendships’ and ‘unintentionally hurting others’ theme, I am here to admit that I messed up.I’ve become so accustomed to technology that I’ve become completely reliant on sms, email, and chat as a means to stay in touch with people. Never really realized that some people, especially if they’re close, don’t consider that as an acceptable method! They expect an occasional phone call to ask about their health and how life is treating them.

By the time I’m done with work, done with family obligations, I am so wiped that, most of the time, I don’t have it in me to hold a proper conversation. I need some peace and quiet. So friends whom I love, I end up using technology to let them know that I’m thinking of them or asking about them. I never really realized that this is sending them the wrong message until today.

So, if you’re one of my friends whom I haven’t called recently, please know that it is NOT because I care any less for you, don’t think of you, or don’t consider you important. I promise to put in more of an effort, if you promise to kick my butt and let me know when I’ve become distant again.

Friends help us through the roughest of times. Nothing is worth losing them over.

Anyone else have a similar problem?

a friend who needs reassurance that s/he is still a ‘dear friend’ should not be held in such high regard

Sometimes smsing them is the best way. Verbal dialogue usually is transparent. So it could more of a solution at times than a problem. But I do know what you are going through.

    june: why the sad face?

fractal: glad to hear i’m not the only one who resorts to technology to stay in touch! thing is, especially if u have a lot of friends, this is the most convenient and time efficient way to contact them! :)

tantalize: yeah.. but i guess what it boils down to is, not everyone is the same. what works for me, may not work for others.. diff ppl have diff needs/wants.. and i guess it’s up to us decide how to handle it.
